Polo: Godara on goal rampage

LAHORE, Jan 31: Six goals by Dhruvpal Godara steered Guard Filters to a 10-7 1/2 win over Colony Textiles in Sahir Polo Cup on Tuesday. The losers had a 3/½ goal handicap and led the first chukker 4 ½ -1.

Godara scored his first, converting a 30-yard penalty hit with a lofted shot.

Umar Sadik struck his first three for the losers through a field attempt.

Supported mainly by handicap, the losers maintained the lead in the second chukker 5 1/2-4.

Godara scored back-to-back goals to complete his hat trick. First he slammed a field goal and then converted a 40-yard penalty. Umar banged home his second to put Colony ahead before Dr Iftikhar Ali Khan pumped in a goal for the winners.

The winners led the third chukker completely to surge ahead for the first time adding four goals for a 8-5 1-2 lead.

Godara had three goals while two-goal Taimur Ali Malik one.

The fourth chukker saw both teams scoring two each.

Iftikhar and Taimur added one each for the winners while Qaisar Tirmizi and Umar struck for the losers.

Four goals by Indian Vishal Singh propelled Hico Icecream to 7 1/2-4 win over Army.

Ahmed Ali Tiwana (2) and Asif Tiwana (1) were the other scorers for the winners, who had a half goal handicap.

For the losers, Col Mujahid Omar scored all four.
