HYDERABAD, Feb 1: Activists of the Pak-American Human Rights Wing of International Peace Friends Society Pakistan held a protest demonstration outside the press club on Friday against the kidnapping of American journalist Daniel Pearl.

Talking to newsmen, the president of the organization, Saeed Nizami said that the American journalist had been kidnapped by Taliban, Al-Qaeda and Indian agency RAW.

He said that it was the duty of the Government of Pakistan, the international media, human rights organizations to make all out efforts for the recovery of the kidnapped journalist, and ensure protection to newsmen.

He said journalists were national assets of any country and it was, therefore, the responsibility of all civilized governments to provide them protection.

The leaders of different wings of the society including Haroon Butt, Hassan Jafri, Yousuf Narejo, Sadat Khan, Ms Samreen Shah, and Ms Mehwish among others participated in the demonstration.

MUNICIPAL STAFF: Over one dozen employees of Hyderabad, Latifabad, and Qasimabad tehsil councils under the banner of the municipal staff union continued their hunger strike on the third consecutive day on Friday.

They are protesting against the non-payment of their salaries for the month of Dec, 2001.

Talking to newsmen, Ghulam M. Qureshi, Aqeel Ahmed Khanzada and others severely criticized the role of labour leader, Qamoos Gul Khattak, who, they alleged, was trying to sabotage the cause of the workers.

They urged the workers to maintain unity in their ranks.

The leaders of public opinion including the provincial president of the National Labour Federation, Rana Mehmood Ali Khan visited the hunger strikers’ camp and expressed solidarity with the workers.

HUNGER STRIKE: Over two dozen community leaders under the banner of the All Sindh Nareja Tanzeem held a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Friday to protest against the kidnapping of Hussain Bux Narejo and Manthar Solangi in upper Sindh.

They demanded the Sindh government and the Zila Nazim, Larkana, to recover Mr Narejo and Mr Solangi from the clutches of dacoits.

LUMHS: The controller of examinations, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, has announced the schedule of first professional MBBS part-I and II annual examinations 2002 for the candidates of LUMHS, People’s Medical College, Nawabshah, and Chandka Medical College, Larkana.

According to schedule, the theory examinations of first professional MBBS part-I and part-II will commence on Feb 02 and 06 respectively.
