HYDERABAD: Disruption in the supply of electricity frustrated the Water and Sanitation Agency’s efforts to clear roads and streets of rainwater accumulated at various places since Sunday’s heavy rains while another spell of rain on Monday morning further added to the inundation.

Met office recorded 17mm of rain in the city and 39mm of rain at its airport office.

Deputy Commissioner Fuad Ghaffar Soomro, who held additional charge of the director general of Hyderabad Development Authority, said that the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) failed to ensure regular power supply due to which rainwater could not be disposed of.

Almost all main feeders which supplied power to Wasa pumping stations remained without electricity supply since Sunday, he said, adding power supply was provided for only a couple of hours.

Wasa official Shaukat Memon said that half of Qasimabad’s sewerage used to be disposed of through Sindhu feeder which had been without electricity since Sunday.

Four feeders connected with Thandi Sarak water supply were also without power, he said.
