Published January 31, 2006

LAHORE, Jan 30: District Nazim Mian Amer says the City District Government Lahore will ensure sectarian peace in the city during Muharram. Speaking at a meeting of the District Peace Committee here on Monday, he urged the religious leaders to abide by the agreed code of conduct and avoid making provocative speeches. All ‘azadari’ processions should follow the approved routes and unauthorized use of amplifiers be avoided, he said.

He said the district government had set up a control room at Nasser Bagh where peace committee members and officials of different departments would be available for assistance on telephone No 1332.

Peace committee chairman Pir Ibrahim Sialvi called upon ulema to avoid injuring religious sentiments of followers of other sects and asking controversial questions.

DCO Mian Ijaz and SSP operations Amer Zulfiqar said a security plan had been chalked out for maintaining peace during Muharram.
