SAHIWAL: Two children of a labourer died while three others were in critical condition after consuming contaminated milkshake at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital on Wednesday.

Hospital doctors were however puzzled over the death of seven-month-old suckling who did not consume the shake.

Dispensary Road resident Asif rushed his five children – Abeeha (13), Faiqa (11), Iman (6), Haram (3), and seven months Anas – to the hospital early Monday. Doctors immediately treated them for food poisoning. Asif and his wife also reported severe food poisoning but their condition improved after treatment.

Anas and Haram died in hospital emergency after five hours treatment.

Doctors said the condition of remaining siblings was also critical.

The district police officer said the case was being investigated. He said the initial autopsy report on Thursday might reveal the cause of deaths and vomiting.
