MANSEHRA: Public affairs officer at the United States consulate in Peshawar Monica Davis on Thursday said her country was working for the development of education, environmental and hospitality fields in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to improve the life of the residents.

“Our consulate has launched a US-Pakistan Green Alliance in KP and trained over 7,000 people, half of them students of hospitality and tourism,” Ms Davis told reporters following a training session organised by the Global Educational Economic and Social Empowerment here.

The embassy official said the US mission in Pakistan was working in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organisations for improving living standards of people and bringing economic changes to their lives.

She said climate awareness sessions were also held in parts of the province, including Kaghan valley, as part of a project sponsored by the US consulate in Peshawar.

“We have been organising cleanup and tree plantation drives, environmental awareness sessions at educational institutions as well as training and holding workshops for hospitality workers and students,” she said.

Ms Davis said the US consulate was also partnering with local NGOs and government for agriculture, water and clean energy projects.

“I drove here to experience the beauty of this landscape. We want to do whatever is possible to protect this soothing environment,” she said.

The embassy official said her consulate was working for a pollution-free environment in Kaghan valley and training and workers related to the tourism and hospitality industry, the cleanliness drivers were being carried out.

She said that with the donation of $130 million from American people and with the collaboration of the US government, work was completed on the Gomal Zam Dam.

Ms Davis also visited a USAID-funded building at the Hazara University, which houses the department of education, an auditorium, and a library. The building was put up in 2013.

The embassy official also inaugurated the newly-built Archaeology Museum at the university.
