Shafiq annexes Open crown

KARACHI, Jan 29: Muhammad Shafiq, ranked sixth in the country, overcame a stiff challenge from promising Yasir Khan on his way to capturing the men’s singles title in the fourth Open tennis championship on Sunday.

A native of Sahiwal, Shafiq exhibited good serve and volley which earned him winners. He was home 7-5, 6-4.

The U-17 title went to Syed Abbas Raza who accounted for Ghulam Abbas 6-4, 6-3.

Earlier, Sunny Williams posted 6-4, 7-5 victory over Ghulam Abbas in the final to clinch the U-15 title the other day.
