KARACHI: The Altaf Hussain-led Muttahida Qaumi Movement, commonly known as MQM-London, staged a rally in the Korangi area on Sunday.

A large number of people, mostly youngsters on motorbikes, participated in the rally. They chanted slogans in favour of Mr Hussain and his party.

The event, which came as a surprise for many, is seen as a major development for the party that has been under the radar of security establishment and facing an unannounced ban since August 2016.

A video clip of the rally went viral on social media platforms showing enthusiastic youngsters chanting slogans while carrying party flags inscribed with the name of Mr Hussain.

London-based MQM convener Mustafa Azizabadi posted a video of the rally on Twitter and said: “A large number of people of Korangi participated in a big rally to express their support for MQM founder Altaf Hussain.”

Last month, the official website of the MQM-L was unblocked in Pakistan after a passage of around seven years.
