KARACHI: Grey horse Flag Of Champion looks fancied to grab honours in the Karachi Cup when it takes place during the Gymkhana race meeting here at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Flag Of Champion, who has a history of being scratched in the morning declaration for being unfit, seems to steal the limelight among seven acceptors provided he appears in the competition and all goes well accordingly.

The cup race classified under scale order V and VI is the second of a small three-race card that has been dished out for the meeting.

All the races will be contested over four furlongs.

Flag Of Champion is expected to be chased among others by bay horse Epsom.

At the outset, mare Bangash Queen is on course to make it two on the trot provided she maintains her winning form in the opening race under scale order VII and VIII.

She had returned home by a length-and-a-quarter over mare Basanti last week.

Both the horses are again pitted against each other in a field of five horses and challenger Basanti has a chance to avenge her defeat.

However, dark bay mare Dolce, who has finished off the frame in her last two outings, may produce an upset if backed by connection.

Another five horses will face the starter in the third and concluding race under combined scale order II, III and IV. It is also the day’s feature event.

With a win under his belt last week, bay horse Geo Jalal is likely to go all out for a repeat performance by overcoming opponents.

He had returned home by a length-and-a-quarter over bay horse Royal Command among three horses.

Chestnut horse Golden Arrow may follow in the footsteps of Geo Jalal to secure second place on board.

If on job, bay horse Come On Champion has the potential to bring an element of surprise.

The first race starts at 3:30pm.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
