DERA GHAZI KHAN: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s former member of the provincial assembly Dr Shahina Najeeb Khosa announced quitting politics and condemned the events of May 9, saying the “evil elements” involved in the episode should be punished.
Dr Khosa, who was a PTI MPA from PP-289, also a gynecologist and social activist, in a social media message said she wanted to focus on her profession as a doctor and decided to stay away from all kinds of practical politics. Strongly condemning the tragic incidents of May 9, she said the miscreants involved in arson should be strictly punished.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Dr Shahina and her husband Najeeb Khosa were presented in the court of Civil Judge Shahid Nadeem in a case registered with Drahema police station under sections 341, 427, 186, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for allegedly disturbing the peace, blocking road, attacking policemen and shouting slogans against the government and the army.
They were represented by Maher Fida Hussain Advocate, who presented arguments in the case. After hearing the arguments, the court discharged the case and acquitted the couple.

SURPRISE VISIT: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Punjab director general paid surprise visits to two centres set up here for distribution of BISP amount among needy women and ordered immediate provision of power generators and chairs for the recipients.
BISP Punjab DG Nadeem Alam Butt also announced increasing the number of retailers for the BISP amount distribution to avoid the rush at these centres.
During visits to the centres set up at Gadai Comprehensive School and Kot Chhata the DG reviewed the arrangements made for the women. He also issued on the spot instructions for immediate solution of the problems being faced by the recipients.
Talking to the media, he said that more than 186,000 women of DG Khan are being provided BISP assistance by 122 retailers at 14 centres.
Replying to a question, he said the government is considering the procedure to give subsidy on flour through BISP.
