KARACHI, Jan 26: A maid was killed by unknown persons in Azizabad here on Thursday. Shaista, 22, was found in a pool of blood in a house in Block 14, F.B Area where she was employed and had been working for the last one year.

DSP Azizabad Ajaz Hashmi told Dawn that kitchen knife was used in the murder and the deceased seems to have put up resistance. The owner of the house, Ms Shahana, was asleep on the first floor at the time of the incident. She had hired Shaista to look after her one-and-a-half year child. At the time of the killing, the infant was with the deceased, the police said.

DSP Azizabad said that Shahana told the police that a sweeper used to visit the house to collect garbage. Door of the room was found broken where the body was found.

Following the incident, the police shifted the body to Abbasi Hospital. An FIR was lodged by the brother of the deceased.
