HYDERABAD, Jan 26: Hyderabad city taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar has said that it was a duty of elected representatives to improve the condition of the taluka.
He was speaking here at the introductory meeting of the newly-elected taluka council.
Mr Jabbar claimed that 150 sanitary workers had been appointed on contract basis to meet the shortage of staff.
He said 12 electric towers would be erected at main roundabouts at a cost of Rs4 million.
He maintained that one tower had already been installed at the Haider chowk and three others would be installed before the advent of Muharram-ul-Haram.
Mr Jabbar said tens of millions of rupees had been earmarked to construct roads and streets and to improve sewerage system.
He offered full cooperation to District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil in development works.
Speaking on the occasion, the convener of the taluka council, Ghulam Shabbar Chishti, said that he would cooperate with all councillors without any discrimination.
The convener invited names for a panel of presiding officers.
The council unanimously approved the names of Dr Ayaz Ahmed Arain, Jalilur
Rehman Siddiqui and Ms Naseem Akhtar Sehr.
KILLING: One person was killed while resisting house robbery on Tuesday night in the Nazarpur union council of the Tando Ghulam Haider taluka in the Tando Mohammad Khan district.
According to reports, some thieves entered into the house of Meghi Kolhi in the People’s colony to steal cattle.
However, inmates of the house woke up and offered resistance.
As a result, the thieves resorted to firing, which killed Porhiat Meghi, son of Kambho Kolhi.
Villagers reportedly cordoned off the area and informed police.
A heavy contingent of police of Tando Ghulam Haider and Tando Mohammad Khan headquarter rushed to the spot and arrested four killers – Nawaz Khaskheli, Porho Machhi, Gul Mohammad alias Guloo and Mataro.
Meanwhile, members of the Kolhi tribe, including women and children, staged a sit-in on the Badin road on Wednesday in protest against murder of Porhiat Meghi.
TPO Mir Aftab Talpur assured the protesters that justice would be provided to them.
The Tando Haider police registered a case on the complaint of Kambho Kolhi, the father of the deceased.
