TAXILA: The Attock district administration will set up solid waste management system in all the six tehsils to ensure clean environment by December this year.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rao Atif Raza while presiding over a meeting in connection with the World Environment Day. He said with the collaboration of various NGOs and donors, the plan to establish solid waste management would be executed in all six tehsils of the district.

He said solid waste management would be expanded to the union council level with the help of local municipal committees, adding that the initiative would not only help in proper disposal of solid waste but also ensure a clean environment.

He said a massive campaign would be initiated to create awareness about the hazards of water pollution. The deputy commissioner issued instructions for waste and garbage disposal at village level through public-private partnership.

Mr Raza said a campaign would be launched during the upcoming monsoon season for tree plantation to overcome the issue of environmental pollution. He directed the forest department to ensure protection of saplings after plantation drive was completed.
