HARIPUR: A man murdered his wife and critically injured his three minor children when he attacked them with a hammer and clubs over unknown reasons in Jabi village of Baka union council, the police said on Monday.

SHO Kotnajibullah police station Arif Khan said Safiullah, 38, beat up his wife, 30, with clubs and a hammer. He said when her children started crying, he also attacked them, leaving them critically injured.

The SHO said the villagers rushed to the house, but the accused managed to escape. However, he was later arrested by the police.

The villagers said they shifted the injured to the trauma centre, where the woman succumbed to injuries.

Her children were identified as Sidra Bibi, 2, Azeemullah, 4, and Beenish Bibi.

The SHO said the reason behind the grisly attack was not yet known.

Meanwhile, a motorcycle and a van collided near Government Postgraduate College for Boys on GT Road, killing one of the motorcyclists and injuring the other. The deceased was identified as Fahad Akbar, 19, of Mouhallah Talokar Town, police said.

Also, Mohammad Saeed, 32, committed suicide by throwing himself under the Karachi-bound Hazara Express on Monday afternoon in the limits of Sera-i-Saleh police station.

The reason behind the suicide was not known, police and family said.
