GILGIT: The treasury and opposition members in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution unanimously condemning the incidents of violence on May 9 and 10 and called for stern action against the federal government and security agencies against miscreants involved in it directly or indirectly.

The session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed. The resolution was tabled by GB Senior Minister Raja Zakaria Khan from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl member Rehmat Khaliq.

The resolution stated that on May 9 and 10, 2023, miscreants damaged national property, attacked military installations and desecrated the monuments of Shuhada-i-Pakistan in various cities under a well-thought-out plan.

The resolution demanded the federal government and security agencies to take strict action against all those involved in these tragic events. The resolution was favoured by the opposition and treasury members and the speaker announced that it be adopted unanimously.

Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed in his remarks said that this resolution is important and does not involve politics.

The impression to go against Pakistan Army is a dangerous factor. He suggested to the assembly members to talk specifically on the matter and not criticise individuals.

The PTI and its allied party Muttahida Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) and opposition parties including PPP, PML-N and JUI-F members condemned the incident and favoured the resolution.

GB Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan while talking about the resolution told the house that PTI leaders condemned the unfortunate incidents.

The chief minister said the PTI was never involved in anti state or anti army activities or narrative, adding that Imran Khan is becoming a victim on political grounds. He announced that people involved in vandalism and damaging public properties during 2020 elections in Gilgit would also be given punishment.
