KARACHI, Jan 25: Law enforcement agencies including Rangers, police, town administrations and organizers of the mourning processions will coordinate with each other during the holy month of Muharram to ensure security on the routes of processions and other important spots in the city.

This was stated by Capital City Police Officer Niaz Ahmed Siddiqi while chairing a meeting of ulema, organizers of mourning processions and scouts to review the arrangements for Muharram.

The CCPO directed DIG Traffic Falak Khursheed to take effective measures for traffic control and vehicle parking and deploy policemen at all important spots. He further directed DIG Traffic to ensure timely issuance of permit stickers to the vehicles, participating in the processions during the month.

He asked DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah to make effective security arrangements for the mourning processions and prepare security plan in the light of suggestions, presented from town level.

Niaz Ahmed said that close circuit cameras would be installed at different important points. Besides, he said that policemen in civvies and women police officials would also be assigned duties along with volunteers for security purposes.

The organizers of processions also gave suggestions regarding security arrangements, development of roads, sewerage and supply of water and condition of streetlights in their respective areas.

They asked the officials for timely issuance of permit stickers for the camps, which would be set up on the routes of processions and for ambulances and other such vehicles which would provide various services to the mourners.

All the officials concerned assured participants of the meeting that the problems regarding arrangements would be solved before the start of the month.

Among others, the meeting was attended by TPOs and officials of Pakistan Rangers and city district government. 

KESC: A meeting of KESC city coordination committee, presided over by in charge distribution Jamil Gul Shaikh, finalized the arrangements to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers during the first 10 days of Muharram.

The meeting was informed that the KESC would also arrange stand-by generators and vehicles along with staff which would accompany the main procession from Muharram 8 to 10. —APP
