KARACHI: The body of a three-year-old girl, who went missing two days ago, was found in the Lyari river on Friday, police said.

However, the police said it was not a drowning incident.

The Federal B. Industrial Area police said the body of the three-year-old girl was recovered near Shafiq Colony and taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where a female medico-legal officer carried out a post-mortem examination.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said initial report stated that the body was decomposed; however samples were collected for a DNA test and chemical analysis to determine the exact cause of death.

Gabol Town SHO Ansar Butt told Dawn that the girl had gone missing on May 30 and her family had lodged a report expressing suspicions over her kidnapping.

He said that some witnesses saw a man taking away the girl from the area the day she went missing. However, no one had so far been arrested, he added.

Meanwhile, a young man was shot at and wounded by robbers over resistance in Orangi Town. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Noman Usman, was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
