SAHIWAL, Jan 24: The deputy district education officer elementary (female) collected Rs675 from each schoolteacher of 425 primary and middle schools as cost of a “Maar naheen payar” board. Reports said DDEOE (female) Ms Shahnaz Hamid had collected the amount from teachers of 250 primary and 175 middle girls schools in the Sahiwal sub-division on the pretext of costs of the ‘Maar naheen payar’ board to be exhibited in schools.

The total amount recovered during December was worked out as Rs286,876. Now during January, the teachers have been asked to deposit Rs450 as school audit tax. The aggregate amount under this head would come to Rs191,250.

The school audit tax is being forcibly collected from teachers reportedly by assistant education officers elementary (female) Ms Shahid, Ms Shaheen, Mrs Nusrat Tahir and Ms Bukhari.

Meanwhile, teachers of these 425 girls’ schools have protested against the collection of heavy amount under various heads.

They have demand that the Punjab government should officially provide ‘Maar naheen payar’ boards to schools.
