PESHAWAR, Jan 24: The University Town police have launched an inquiry against Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MNA from Chitral Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali for allegedly beating a gatekeeper. Police officials said on Tuesday that the MNA had gone to the campus on Friday to discuss matters related to students of his area with the administration.

Gatekeeper Fazal Mohammad stopped the MNA’s car and asked him to get an entry token. But Maulana Chitrali got infuriated and assaulted the gatekeeper in the presence of several people, said a university teacher.

Administration Officer Shafiq on Monday sent a complaint to the campus police with a request to register a case, the officials said.

Police, however, registered a daily report and started investigation into the incident.

If the allegation levelled by the administration proved correct, the report would be converted into an FIR against the maulana, said the SHO of the police station.

Maualana Chitrali had gone to the campus to discuss some issues related to students belonging to Chitral with the university administration, said Peshawar University Teachers Association President Prof Nasir Jamal.

The administration informed the lawmaker that the colleges in Chitral district were no more affiliated with the Peshawar University but with the Malakand University, Prof Jamal said.

“Everyone entering the university, even the vice-chancellor, gets the token but the MNA considered himself above the rules and regulations,” he said.
