KARACHI, Jan 23: The Mexican government has introduced new sanitary and phytosanitary regulations on import of red dry chillies from abroad, including Pakistan.

According to information by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) here on Monday, the new rules are effective immediately.

The EPB has advised the exporters of red dry chillies to fully comply with these regulations to avoid any delay in the release of consignments.

According to the new regulation, red dry chillies consignments should be accompanied by an international sanitation certificate, clearly stating the origin of the products and certify that it is free from trogoderma granarium (a seed disease).

An exporter must be registered with the phytosanitary authorities of Pakistan and the registration number of his company should be mentioned in the international phytosanitary certificate.

The consignments should be free of soil, dirt and unwanted particles and should be packed in new containers or packages. The labels on packages should indicate the name and description of the product, the name of the company and the country of origin.

The Mexican authorities will fumigate the consignment with “bromuro de metlio” and undertake inspection at the point of entry. —APP
