LAHORE, Jan 21: The largest Information Technology (IT) park of the country is being established in the city at a cost of Rs1.5 billion. This was stated by Punjab Information Technology Board chairman Rizwan Amin Shiekh at the inaugural session of the two-day information, communication and technologies conference here at the Fortress Stadium on Saturday.

He said it would be a 20-storey building with all state-of-the-art facilities. Its space would be leased out at subsidised rates, he said and added that more than 10,000 jobs would be created and it would generate billions of rupees annually.

Mr Shiekh said an IT laboratory project was being launched to enhance professional and communication skills of IT graduates. A research and development fund would also be established, he added.

National Telecommunication Corporation chairman Shahid Farooq also spoke.

A number of IT firms have set up stalls in the exhibition, attracting scores of people from all walks of life.
