GUJRANWALA, Jan 21: The excise and taxation department launched an operation against defaulters and seized over 100 vehicles on charges of non-payment of token tax and other dues here on Saturday.

Reports said the department had given Dec 31 deadline to defaulters to clear their outstanding dues and warned them by issuing final notices that their vehicles would be impounded if they failed to do so. Various teams, led by excise inspectors, set up pickets on GT Road and seized the vehicles.

However, some defaulters got their vehicles released after clearing the dues.

RECOVERED: Aroop police on Saturday recovered body of a woman packed in a bag from Upper Chenab canal.

Reports said some passers-by informed the police about a bag lying in the canal. Police recovered the bag and placed it at the DHQ hospital for identification.

Police said the woman (45) had been shot dead. A case has been registered.
