LAHORE, Jan 21: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) should hold a single-country exhibition in Singapore which is fast becoming a big market for Asian products and needs to be captured by Pakistani entrepreneurs.
This was stated by Pakistan’s High Commissioner in Singapore Sajjad Ashraf while talking to LCCI President Mian Shafqat Ali, Vice-President Aftab Ahmad Vohra and former Senior Vice-President Sohail Lashari here on Saturday.
Mr Ashraf says that Singapore is the second biggest market after Dubai and a little attention by the genuine businessmen could do the miracles as far as country’s exports are concerned.
The high commissioner informed the LCCI office-bearers that annually 10 million foreigners visited Singapore and this huge number was enough to make the point that the country was a potential market for any state.
He said that there were 1,440 Indian companies presently operating in Singapore, while the number of Pakistani firms was much smaller and this needed a special attention if Pakistani business community wanted to go global.
The LCCI president said that Pakistan’s high commission could play an important role in attracting Singaporean investment to Pakistan.
He said that there was a lot of scope for joint ventures in agro-food industry, IT and telecom, chemicals and petrochemicals, electrical goods, electronics and software, value-added textiles and leather, infrastructure projects/construction industry, tourism, hotels and theme parks and seafood/fish processing industry.
The LCCI vice-president said that the establishment of bonded warehouses for Pakistani products in Singapore for joint marketing could work as an effective tool for the promotion of bilateral trade relations.—APP
