MITHI, Jan 20: The Tharparkar district council has called upon the government to make operational tube-wells installed by Sazda in various villages of Thar. The demand was made in a resolution and adopted at the council session held here on Friday.

Council member Abdul Subhan Sangrasi said the government had spent huge funds and installed about 55 tube-wells in various villages of Thar but most of them were non-operational after developing faults.

An engineer of the public health department clarified at the session that Sazda had been shelved and its employees had been adjusted in various departments.

He said tube-wells had been handed over to village development organizations and the department had not been allocated funds for maintenance and repair of such tube-wells.

Maturam Bhagat said a number of offices of the education department set up in buildings of girls’ schools in Mithi were affecting education. The council passed a resolution, demanding shifting of such offices.

Guman Singh Sodho and Maturam Bhagat said people had been complaining regarding malfunctioning of Nadra office in Mithi hence the system be streamlined and the same office situated out of town be shifted to the central place of the town.

Kirshan Lal Radhi said Internet users of Thar were facing a lot of difficulties in getting connected because servers of internet lines were installed in Hyderabad and Mithi.

The council urged general manager of the PTCL to ensure installation of optical lines for the town. Through another resolution, the council called for facilities of link roads, dispensaries, community centres and more girls’ schools.

District Nazim Arbab Anwar told the council that the annual development plan allocations for Thar had been enhanced upto Rs360 million.
