HYDERABAD, Jan 20: Scholars paid rich tributes to great scholar Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasimi for his services to literature and research. They were speaking at a seminar “Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasimi and his contemporary scholars” at the Institute of Sindhology here on Thursday.

The seminar was organized by the Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi Chair of the University of Sindh.

Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the seminar.

The vice-chancellor of the University of Karachi, Dr Pirzada Qasim, vice-chancellor of the Sindh Agriculture University Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaikh, educationist Dr S. M. Qureshi, the director of the Siddiqui Trust, Mr Munwar Alam Siddiqui, spoke in the seminar.

They said that Allama Qasimi was a great religious scholar and had played a key role in setting up of the Sindhi Adabi Board, Institute of Sindhology and Shah Waliullah Academy.

They said Allama Qasmi was a follower of Maulana Ubedullah Sindhi and had disseminated philosophy of Shah Waliullah.

Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said that an authentic biography of Allama Qasmi would be published by the Allama Qasmi Chair.

He appealed to followers and scholars concerned to provide available material, photographs to the Allama Qasmi Chair for publication of biography of Allama Qasimi.

He said that the university and the Siddiqui Trust would provide financial assistance for publication of the biography of Allama Qasmi.

The vice-chancellor said the chair would continue its work and would play leading role in promotion of scholarly services of Allama Qasimi and his contemporary scholars.

Dr Ghulam Ali Allana said Allama Qasmi was a real promoter and developer of the Institute of Sindhology.

He said Allama Qasmi had helped him a lot in collection of valuable books and manuscripts from different parts of the country.

He pointed out that he had played an important role for development of Sindhi typewriter by the Institute of Sindhology.

Dr Abdul Jabbar Junejo said Allama Qasmi was a great scholar of Sindhi literature who always encouraged youth in research work.

Ghulam Rabbani Agro suggested publication of an authentic biography of Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi.

He said that his real followers and scholars would be helpful in the writing of biography.

Dr Noor Afroz Khowaja, Dr Idress Soomro, Maulana Abdul Wahid Chachar, Dr Abdul Ghani Shaikh, Prof Nazir Qasmi and Dr Anwar Fagar Hakro expressed their views and paid rich tributes to his services in various fields.

On the occasion, Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi Memorial corner was also inaugurated by vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui at the gallery of prominent scholars at Institute of Sindhology.

LUMHS: The vice chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro, Professor Jan Mohammad Memon, here on Thursday inaugurated a pre-symposium awareness programme on ‘cancer: a global challenge’.

In his inaugural speech, Professor Memon said that the public awareness programme was an integral part of the fourth symposium being organized by the university.

He said the university decided to hold public awareness programmes at district and taluka levels to benefit maximum number of people. Prof Aftab Qureshi, Prof Pushpa Sirichand, Prof Shehzad Leghari, Prof Rafique Ahmed Soomro, Dr Hussain Bux Kolachi, Prof Allah Bachayo Memon and Prof Amna Memon.
