KARACHI: Under the ongoing westerly wave across the country, the city is likely to witness light to moderate rain with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds from early Saturday till Sunday evening, officials said on Friday.

However, they ruled out any heavy rain spell in Karachi during the current weather trend.

They said in areas of upper Sindh heavy rains were expected under the developing system.

On Friday the Met office recorded the maximum temperature of the city at 32.7 degrees Celsius with 51 per cent humidity.

“It’s a transition phase when we move from winter to summer,” said Sardar Sarfaraz of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). “The expansion of westerly winds moved towards south which led to this fresh weather phenomenon, which we are witnessing. This is likely to stay till late Sunday or early Monday.”

On Friday afternoon, a few parts of the metropolis received drizzle but the Met office said that none of them could get countable rain and only traces were found in the city pockets.
