UNBELIEVABLE SIGHT: This is with reference to a photograph (Feb 10) that showed the students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir sitting on the ground covered with snow. However unbelievable this might sound to many of us, this is the reality that is reflective of what they have been given in the last more than 75 years.

UNNECESSARY RULES: In today’s era of technological advancement, the Sukkur Testing Service (STS) follows unnecessary rules, such as not allowing entry to the examination hall without the original CNIC. Recently, 23 female candidates were traveling from Jacobabad to Sukkur to take the test for Junior Elementary School Teacher. They were looted on the way by armed robbers who took away all their belongings, including their CNICs. The candidates were denied entry to the examination centre. Biometric verification would have done the trick.

DISCRIMINATION: Recently, the education department in Balochistan announced 24,600 jobs across the province. These jobs are advertised with respect to Union Councils (UCs), and it is surprising that districts like Sohbatpur and Kalat have been largely neglected. This kind of discrimination will dishearten the people. Therefore, the department concerned should re-advertise the positions and include all the UCs without any discrimination so that the vacant seats may be filled without delay.

MATERNITY CARE: The maternal mortality rate should compel all stakeholders to look for solutions. However, many are reluctant to even talk about it in public and consider it a taboo. A film, Pieces of a Woman vividly describes the pain and agony a woman suffers during pregnancy and after childbirth. It empowers society to face the reality and talk about maternal care. It also gives the message to all the women to be brave and have control over their bodies.
