KARACHI: Residents of Lyari on Wednesday evening held a protest demonstration on Mauripur Road against prolonged power cuts in their locality and inflated bills in the name of supplementary bills.

The residents, including women and children, staged a sit-in on the main artery, causing a traffic jam. A heavy contingent of police reached the scene and according to protesters they baton-charged the crowd to disperse them..

However, City SSP Arif Aziz said that police got the road vacated without resorting to baton charge.

The protesters accused that the K-Electric was also sending them ‘supplementary bill without inspecting their house sanctioned load.

A resident said that he had received Rs80,000 supplementary bill for one month only.
