HARIPUR, Jan 18: Two children were killed and their mother was injured when the roof of their room collapsed in village Kholian Bala, some 6km from here, on Tuesday.
Police said Rubina, wife of Wali Muhammad, was asleep with her three children in a mud room when the roof caved in, killing Nida Bibi, seven, and Mahnoor Bibi, three, on the spot, and injuring their mother seriously. However, Rubina’s son Haseeb, five, escaped unhurt.
Locals retrieved the bodies and the injured woman from the debris and shifted them to the DHQ hospital.
Witnesses said the room had developed cracks in Oct 8 earthquake, but the poor family could not bear the cost of repair.
MAN KILLED: A man was killed while another injured in a road accident near Dingi.
The Kotnajibullah police said two men were waiting for a bus at the Dingi stop when a speeding Rawalpindi-bound vehicle hit them.
The dead was identified as Zareen Bahadur and injured as Ali Sher.
The police failed to arrest the driver.
SUICIDE: A teenage boy committed suicide in Khalabat township here on Wednesday, family sources and police said.
According to them, Shahzad Ahmed, 17, had been indulging in smoking. On Wednesday after his parents reprimanded him, he shot at his chest with a pistol and was seriously injured.
He was taken to a hospital but bled to death on the way, family sources said.
Meanwhile, a man died after being hit by a Haripur-bound passenger van near Shah Mohammad village, witnesses said.
They said that the man was crossing GT Road when he was hit by the van.
The victim was later identified as Pir Khan, son of Zaman Khan, resident of Sirya village.
CRIMINAL ARRESTED: The Haripur police arrested a ‘hardened criminal’ from Rawalpindi on Wednesday, said District Police Officer Syed Feroz Shah.
He told journalists that Sohail Khan of Triman village in Ghazi tehsil was declared proclaimed offender in 1999 as he was wanted for a number of criminal acts.
