HARIPUR, Jan 18: Two children were killed and their mother was injured when the roof of their room collapsed in village Kholian Bala, some 6km from here, on Tuesday.

Police said Rubina, wife of Wali Muhammad, was asleep with her three children in a mud room when the roof caved in, killing Nida Bibi, seven, and Mahnoor Bibi, three, on the spot, and injuring their mother seriously. However, Rubina’s son Haseeb, five, escaped unhurt.

Locals retrieved the bodies and the injured woman from the debris and shifted them to the DHQ hospital.

Witnesses said the room had developed cracks in Oct 8 earthquake, but the poor family could not bear the cost of repair.

They said that the man was crossing GT Road when he was hit by the van.
