BAJAUR: Eight butchers were arrested on Saturday for violating the official price list.

A statement issued from the deputy commissioner’s office here said that the butchers were detained during surprise raids conducted by assistant commissioner, Khar, Mohibullah Khan Yousafzai in Khar and Sadiqabad bazaars.

The district administration had received complaints against the butchers for not following the official price list.

The statement said that the assistant commissioner first visited the shops of butchers disguising as a customer to confirm the complaints.

The AC found eight butchers red-handed for selling meat by up to Rs250 higher than the official price list. The statement said that the official, who was accompanied by a team of police, ordered the arrest of the butchers. Later, they were shifted to the Khar prison.

Meanwhile, sources in the district administration and local people told Dawn on Saturday that though the administration had fixed price of meat during the fasting month, the butchers didn’t sell the meat at official rate.

According to a statement issued by the Rescue 1122, the incident occurred on Khar-Munda Road in Doosai area. It said that the motorcyclists were identified as Najeeb, 22 and Matiullah, 20. They were shifted to a hospital.
