HYDERABAD, Jan 18: Activists of the Pakistan People’s Party (SB) and its students and youth wings observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Wednesday against non-payment of compensation to people affected by the Lyari Expressway project and the alleged demolition of old settlements in Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, party leaders Zulfiqar Jamali, Dr Lakhmir Palari, Syed Imran Shah and others alleged that the City District Government of Karachi in connivance with builders’ mafia had bulldozed old villages in the city without paying compensation to people.

They warned that if displaced families were not paid compensation and provided with alternative accommodation, the party activists would stage a series of protest demonstrations throughout the province and also stage a sit-in outside the office of the Karachi city nazim.
