RAWALPINDI: Another suspected robber was killed when his gang opened fire on a police party in the limits of the New Town police area, police claimed on Wednesday.

Police said that they had also recovered two motorcycles snatched by the culprits.

The incident happened when the police party at a checkpoint signaled four motorcycle riders to stop. Instead of responding to the police, the suspects opened fire on the police party.

During the firing, one of the suspects was injured, while his three accomplices managed to escape leaving the injured on the spot.

Police said that the injured died while being shifted to hospital.

The deceased was identified by the police as Shafiqur Rehman.

Police said the gang of robbers had been involved in cars/motorcycles snatching, and firing on police party in the twin cities.

The gang also has record cases of killing and injuring citizens during robbery.

Senior police officers along with the police force reached the spot and collected evidence from the crime scene, while police teams were searching the area to arrest three other accomplices of the deceased.

Earlier on Tuesday, one of the suspected robbers was killed while a police constable was injured during an exchange of gunfire, what the police said the suspected robber was killed during the firing of his own accomplices in Pirwadhai area.

Meanwhile, three people were injured during an exchange of gunfire between the two groups in the Dhamial area over a land dispute.

SP Saddar Division Mohammad Nabil Khokhar, ASP Saddar and SHO Dhamyal reached the scene and arrested 17 people.

The injured have been identified as Shafiq, Maruf and Shahid.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Terrorism Act and other sections of the law.
