SUKKUR: A woman was killed and a girl was wounded when rival groups of Sundrani and Sawand clans traded fire at each other in Gablo riverine area within the jurisdiction of Ghora Ghat in Kandhkot district on Thursday.

The two sides used lethal weapons, including rockets and Kalashnikov rifles, in the attack, killing Nazeeran Sundrani and injuring an unidentified girl.

Police had not yet reached the area to control the situation and take the dead body and the injured to the taluka hospital. The area people confined themselves within their homes as the firing between the groups continued sporadically since yesterday.

Villagers said that if police did not stop the parties the exchange of fire might lead to further bloodshed. The rival groups had been at daggers drawn with each other for a long time over issues related to ‘honour’.
