SWABI: Two robbers snatched Rs3.7 million from a money changer at the main market in Topi city in broad daylight here on Monday, the police and eyewitnesses said.

Topi city police station officials said a money changer, Riaz Ali, was going to a bank to deposit the cash when he was intercepted by robbers in the Topi Bazaar just across the bank.

The robbers armed with pistols snatched the bag containing money from the businessman and escaped.

Eyewitnesses said as soon as some persons nearby showed resistance, the robbers opened fire in the air, causing panic among the people.

Police officials said they had not yet registered a case into the incident.

They said the police had blocked all the entry and exit points to the city to trace the robbers.

Meanwhile, four people were seriously injured in road accidents on Monday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

Two motorcycles collided in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate, injuring two people, identified as Muneeb Khan, 16, and Zahid Khan, 30. They were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Separately, Owais Khan, 24, of Bamkhel village was injured when he was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the Swabi-Topi Road. He was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Also in the day, Faizan Khan, 14, of Kotha village was injured when a speeding motorcycle and a rickshaw collided on Kotha-Topi Road. He was taken to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor.
