THATTA, Jan 15: Forty activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians were booked by the Gharo police on Sunday for allegedly attacking police, obstructing official duties and creating law and order situation during a protest demonstration in the Gujjo town on Friday night against the alleged wrongful confinement and torture of PPP activist Khamiso Mirbahar.

Urs Mirbahar, his brother, Khamiso Mirbahar, Ali Akbar, Mumtaz Mallah, Latif Mallah, Mamoon Mallah, Munawar Mallah, Hanif Memon, Haroon Jokhio and Ustad Mallah were nominated in the FIR lodged by SHO Yaqoob Bhatti on behalf of the state while the remaining accused were mentioned in the FIR as to be identified on being seen.

Expressing concern over the implication of the party activists in what they called a fabricated case, PPP MPAs Sassui Palijo and Humera Alwani alleged that the Gharo police had implicated party activists in the fake case to hush up their own crime of indiscriminate firing on peaceful demonstrators.

They said PPP provincial assembly members would not remain silent on the issue if the case was not withdrawn.

It may be recalled that hundreds of people of the Gujjo town, mostly PPP activists, had blocked the National Highway, demanding release of PPP activist Khamiso.

To disperse the protesters, Gujjo police station SHO Yaqoob Bhatti had allegedly resorted to firing, resulting in injuries to four people, including an ASI.

The situation had been controlled when the DSP, headquarters, had arrived and promised action against police.
