KHAIRPUR, Jan 15: President of the Awami Tehrik, Rasool Bux Palijo, has said that the people of Sindh have no enmity with anyone and they are protesting only to protect their rights. He was addressing a gathering at Handiyari and Thari Mirwah. Mr Palijo vowed to continue his struggle against the Kalabagh dam as it would deprive the people of Sindh of their main source of livelihood.
He said Sindh had a right on natural resources of the country, including the Indus river, and it would not give it up.
The Awami Tehrik chief said people from all over Sindh would participate in the protest on January 18 in Hyderabad against construction of the Kalabagh dam to tell the world that 40 million people of Sindh were against the dam.
JSQM: Around 200 citizens and activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) took out a procession against arrest of the JSQM leader and secretary of the local election commission, Abdul Jabbar, in Thari Mirwah on Saturday.
The procession was led by JSQM leader Fayaz Khamisani.
It started from the Thari Mirwah Degree College.
A heavy contingent of police stopped the procession from entering into the city when it was near old Naka.
The protesters staged a demonstration for about one hour and raised slogans against the Thari Mirwah police.
Meanwhile, around 800 farmers and JSQM workers took out a procession here on Sunday against proposed construction of the Kalabagh dam.
The march was led by JSQM district president Amjad Mahessar, Shabbir Jamali and Fayaz Khamisani.
It started from the National Highway and reached the Mariam Toap chowk.
Speaking on the occasion, the JSQM leaders said the procession was a message to supporters of the Kalabagh dam that the people of Sindh would block all roads leading to Punjab and Islamabad if constructing of the dam was announced.
Earlier, the protesters blocked the highway near the Shah Abdul Latif University for about one hour.
DADU: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has said that people of Sindh will continue their struggle against Kalabagh dam because it was more dangerous than atom bomb.
He said the federal government was trying to deprive 40 million people of Sindh of their livelihood by stopping flow of water to Sindh.
He was speaking at a big rally.
Mr Palijo said Sindhis were coming forward to sacrifice their lives for survival.
He said the federal government should opt for Pakistan or Kalabagh dam.
He said the army operation was going on in Balochistan because they were demanding their rights.
He said the people of Sindh and history would not forget those feudal ministers who were supporting construction of Kalabagh dam.
He said that Sindhi people should participate in the rally of January 18 in Hyderabad against Kalabagh dam.
He said that accountability of corrupt ministers who were supporting the Kalabagh dam would be started after January 18.
Hundreds of people also staged a demonstration before the federal minister water and power, Mr Liaquat Ali Jatoi, in Mehar when he was on his way to Betto Jatoi.
Angry protesters raised slogans against the Kalabagh dam.
They were led by Rasool Bux Palijo, Jami Chandio, Lal Shah.
Rallies were also taken out in Sann, Manjhand, Sehwan Sharif, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Bhan Syedabad towns.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Activists of the Pakistan Labour Party and Bhatta Labour Union took out a rally against the Kalabagh dam and the Greater Thal Canal projects from the Bakhsho Rind village to the press club.
Protesters were led by the General Secretary of Pakistan Labour Party, Sindh, Younus Raho, Bhatta Labour Union leader Khalid Rind, Progressive Youth Front leader Sagar Bashir Sabzoi.
