KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by armed muggers over resistance in a New Karachi locality, police said on Saturday.

They said that seven friends had dinner at a restaurant in Shafiq Colony on Friday night and were on their way home when five armed men intercepted them near the Gabol Town police station.

Area SHO Imran Afridi said that the muggers held them at gunpoint and demanded cash and their mobile phone. However, 25-year-old Muham­mad Idris refused to give them his cell phone, put up resistance and threw the phone. The robbers fired at him and fled without any loot, he added.

He suffered a single bullet wound in the abdomen and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The SHO said that the dece­ased worked in a factory. He had recently come to Karachi from Rahim Yar Khan in search of livelihood. The body was being sent to his native town for burial.

Police say criminals shot 25-year-old after he refused to give his mobile phone

Meanwhile, a suspected robber was shot dead in an alleged encounter in the Pak Colony area on Saturday.

Police said that the encounter took place near Benazir Park in Old Golimar in which suspect Akhtar was killed and his accomplice, Ibrahim, was arrested in an injured condition. The police clai­med to have recovered one pistol.

Teenager girl commits suicide

A teenage girl was found shot dead in Machhar Colony on Saturday, police said.

The Docks police said that Ayesha Wadood, 16, committed suicide by shooting herself inside her home near Meharban Chowk.

Area SHO Pervez Solangi said that she had been emotionally disturbed. She did not want to be engaged with a man chosen for her by her family. She shot herself with the licensed pistol of her father.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Kara­chi to complete medico-legal formalities.
