LONDON: There is no doubt among well-informed British circles that severe hostilities now appear bound to break out in Palestine when the British Mandate ends on May 15. The gravity of the situation there is regarded as directly due to the partition decision at the General Assembly. … The hopes that the Security Council would suddenly produce some unheard of unity which would send back Palestine to the Assembly or put in such forces that the resistance of both the Arabs and Jews would be overawed have now completely faded here. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, it was also reported that] The recommendations of the Pakistan Industries Conference, which was held in Karachi from Dec 13 to 17 last, have been forwarded to the Provincial and State Governments… . … Apropos of power generation and distribution the Industries Conference had recommended that Pakistan should aim at generating 5,00,000 kilowatts in the next five to seven years to meet its requirements of electric power, both for industrial and other purposes, and that the highest priority should be given to the generation of hydro-electric power.
