Heavy fog affects power supply

HYDERABAD, Jan 14: Heavy fog on Friday night and Saturday morning affected power supply to parts of Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas and coastal belts of Thatta and Badin. The power supply to Hyderabad remained suspended for around eight hours since late Friday night.

The national supply line of 132kv was affected due to Friday night’s heavy fog as most of feeders in grid stations tripped. For safety measures, Hesco officials restarted supply of electricity following clearance of company’s field offices in these districts.

The non-supply of electricity also hit the water filtration process.

The supply of water from the filter plant and other reservoirs was badly affected.

A major portion of the Hyderabad city remained without electricity till 10:30am.

Our Mirpurkhas Correspondent adds: Many areas were plunged into darkness following suspension in power supply late on Friday night.

The affected areas included Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Mirwah, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naukot, Mithi, Diplo, Chhachhro, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chelhar, Umerkot, Pithoro, Samaro, Kunri, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Sofi Faqeer, Shadi Palli, Sindhri and Dhoronaro.

Water supply was also disrupted due to the power failure.

The executive engineer, Hesco, operation division, Laiq Ahmed Khan, attributed the power breakdown to heavy dew during the night.
