KARACHI: A huge fire that broke out in a house in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Friday caused damage to the property, but no one was hurt in the incident, said officials.
South-SSP Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that the fire erupted in the house located on Saba Avenue in Phase-VI at around 9.30am.
There was a vacant plot adjacent to the house where old furniture/wooden stuff was kept. The fire erupted in the wooden stuff, which spread to the house, the SSP said, adding that firefighters managed to put out the blaze.
However, Darakshan SHO Saeed Ahmed said that an electric short-circuit caused the fire. He denied reports on social media that a “gas suction pump/machine” exploded in the house and caused the fire.
However, the SSGC stated in a statement that it was “unfortunately one more incident adding to the many, already in the list”.
Without making a direct confirmation, an SSGC spokesperson stated: “The act of deployment of gas suction devices / compressors is not only immoral and illegal, but also highly insecure, often leading to loss of precious human lives and properties.”
