KARACHI: PPP slams army operation

Published January 14, 2006

KARACHI, Jan 13: The Sindh PPP chief, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has condemned the raid at Dera Bugti and taking over of the house of Nawab Akbar Bugti by security forces.

In a statement on Friday, he said the rulers had bypassed all norms in subjecting the people of Balochistan to extreme limits of cruelty.

“Treating political opponents like animals, the rulers have brought the situation to a point that could harm the integrity of the nation and the country,” he observed.

He questioned why elements, who had given an ultimatum to the government for parting ways in case the military operation in Balochistan was not stopped, had now kept mum over the targeting of innocent Baloch people.

“The MQM’s ultimatum to the government on the KBD and military operation was nothing but a fraud,” Qaim Ali Shah remarked, adding that instead of stopping the military operation — contrary to the MQM’s claims — the government had speeded up its actions.

He demanded an immediate end to the military operation and killings of Baloch people and suggested initiating a dialogue for political resolution of the issue.—PPI
