RAWALPINDI, Jan 9: Two persons, including a woman, were injured in two separate robbery incidents in the twin cities on Monday night, police said.

In Rawalpindi, shopkeepers and passers-by overpowered two of the robbers who were firing at people while fleeing causing injuries to a shopkeeper, Arshad Mehmood.

The two culprits, one of them identified by the police as a retired armyman, were handed over to Banni police.

When contacted, SHO Banni police Asghar Guraya said four robbers entered Sultan Zaib’s goldsmith shop in old Sarafa Bazaar and held the workers at gunpoint.

The SHO said the robbers demanded keys of the locker where the jewellery was kept. But when workers refused, saying the keys were with the owner, the robbers snatched cash and fled away.

As the robbers were fleeing, the workers started screaming which attracted the attention of other shopkeepers and people from the surrounding area. When the culprits saw people following them, they opened fire which resulted in the injury to one of the shopkeepers, Arshad.

Police said in retaliation to the robbers’ indiscriminate fire, one of the victims also fired shots at them. This helped people overpower two of the robbers.

The SHO Banni said one of the arrested was identified as Mushtaq, a retired lance naik, while the other was named Anwar Iftikhar, a resident of Derkot. The police said the victims claimed that the robbers had stolen Rs20,000 from them.

In another incident, two robbers entered a house in F-10/2 and looted Rs40,000 after injuring the woman.

Police said two robbers forcibly entered House No 280 in street 14 and held a woman identified as Salma at gunpoint. The robbers beat her up when she refused to give up the cash. However the culprits snatched Rs40,000 and escaped.

Meanwhile, a Toyota car (IDM-777) was stolen from the parking lot of a five-star hotel situated in the jurisdiction of Secretariat police.

Online adds: Four more cars and three bikes were stolen from different parts of the twin-cities in last couple of days.

According to details, some unknown men stolen a car bearing registration number LRG-2214 in the jurisdiction of New Town Police Station, owner of the care while lodging case in the police station told.

Another person Tufail while registering the case with the police complained that his car LRZ- 5226 was stolen from parking area in Cantt. In similar another incident Zahid Karim bike RIZ- 4799 was also stolen including another JC-905.

Two Cars of Muhammad Sadeeq (RIT (9610) and Mazhar Hussain (applied for) and a motorcycle (Rl-5982) of Shafqat were also taken away by thieves in different parts of Rawalpindi.
