KARACHI: An enraged mob beat up a suspected robber after he shot dead a man and wounded two others over resistance in a Manghopir area on Wednesday, police said.

Orangi Town SP Muhammad Qais Khan said that two armed men tried to snatch a Honda-125 motorbike from a citizen in Ghaziabad. As he put up resistance, the robbers fired at him and rode away, leaving him in critical condition. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment. The victim was identified as 28-year-old Fahad.

The SSP said that area people chased the fleeing robbers and they were joined by a police patrol that reached the scene. At Quba Masjid near Ijtimagah Road, the robbers resorted to firing in their bid to flee but the bullets hit an infant girl and a passer-by.

The mob got hold of one of the suspects and subjected him to a severe beating. However, police managed to save him from their wrath and shifted him to a hospital.

Police Surgeon said that the condition of the held suspect was critical.
