KARACHI, Jan 9: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal invited the urban development companies of Iran to work in Karachi in order to help improve its infrastructure.

Talking to Iranian Consul-General Syed Moosa Hussaini, who called on him at his office on Monday, the city nazim said that Tehran had witnessed an accelerated progress during the last 15 years especially in the sectors of water supply, sewerage disposal, sanitary work and transport.

The nazim said that he wished that those companies, which had played a major role in the infrastructure development of Tehran, should also work in Karachi.

He said that he would visit Tehran at a suitable time and study its urban progress, especially the replacement of infrastructure and also meet with Tehran mayor.

Mr Kamal through the Iranian consul-general invited the mayor of Tehran to visit Karachi.

He said that Karachi was the biggest city of Pakistan and efforts would be taken to make it a twin city of Tehran and added that he wanted to solve the problems of Karachi, by benefiting through the experience of Tehran.

Mr Kamal said that Karachi was in the process of development and there was still a lot of ground to cover.

He said that though a number of Iranian companies were already working here, but their number should rise now.

Speaking on the occasion, Iranian Consul-General Syed Moosa Hussaini said that both Karachi and Tehran were amongst the big cities of the world and they should be made twin cities to help solving their identical problems through mutual efforts.

He also stressed for closer ties between the leadership of the two cities and said that Iran was extending all possible cooperation to Pakistan.

Mr Hussaini said that in Iran the work of sanitary and cleanliness was carried out in night, so that the cities remained clean during the day.

He said that work was in progress to develop an underground transport system in Tehran.

Mr Hussaini said that in Karachi the uplift schemes were being introduced at a faster pace and it was hoped that the city would witness great development within a short span of time.

The Iranian consul-general expressed best wishes on behalf of the Iranian people for Pakistanis and specially the quake-hit people.—PPI
