LOWER DIR: Dir Qaumi Jirga on Friday settled a longstanding property dispute between two tribes here.

The dispute remained unsolved in courts since 1968 as both the Osakhel and Utmankhel tribes claimed ownership over the Shatai Dara lands stretching over hundreds of acres.

Dir Qaumi Jirga led by a former MNA Sahibzada Yaqub Khan started making efforts to resolve the matter and finally succeeded in bringing the rival parties to the negotiating table.

A function to this effect was held in Shatai Dara area, where Lower Dir deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Khan Niazi and district police officer Ikramullah Khan were also in attendance.

The officers thanked the jirga members and the warring parties for settling the decades-old dispute that had claimed several lives in the past.
