LAHORE: The Salman-Misbah panel has bagged a majority of Lahore Gymkhana Club’s committee of management (COM) elected for a three-year term (2023-25).

Since the results for one of the total 12 COM’s members were withheld by the election committee with a decision to recount, the Ziaur Rehman-Tasneem Noorani group, which used to campaign against the three-year term for being illegal under the bylaws, lost a majority of seats reportedly.

According to election results, Dr Ali Razaque of Salman-Misbah group obtained 1,642 votes - the highest among the winners. The others, belonging to this panel, included Mian Misbah Rehman, Wajid Aziz Khan, Salman Siddqiue, Sarmad Nadeem, Pervaiz Bhandara, Shaukat Javed, Sardar Qasim Farooq Ali and Mrs Samaira Nazir who obtained 1,530, 1,491, 1,449, 1,448, 1,321, 1,252, 1,207 and 1,199 votes respectively.

Ziaur Rehman and Waqarud Din (Vicky) of Zia-Noorani panel obtained 1,438 and 1,268 votes, respectively. The results for Agha Ali Imam and Qamar Khan (Bobby) were withheld, as the name of the winner of them would be announced after a recount.

“Salman Siddique is likely to become chairman of the club as his group has bagged a majority of COM member seats,” a member of the club told Dawn. He said the Zia-Noorani group sees three-year term unlawful as, according to it, the term should be for one year under the bylaws. “But the Salman-Misbah group has rejected such accusations,” he added.
