KARACHI, Jan 8: The former city nazim, Niamatullah Khan, on Sunday, terming the under-construction Women Library Complex near NIPA roundabout a historic project, has demanded of the city government to complete it at the earliest. He said the Women Library Complex was not only unique in the country but was so in the whole of South Asia.

He said after the project’s completion the women of Karachi, especially girl students of colleges and universities, would greatly benefit from it as they will be able to use books and research material from various libraries of the world through digital technology.

He said rumours that the project would be shelved and its building be used for a trauma centre were unbelievable.

He said it was the first major library project for women in the country and 70 percent work on it had already been completed.

He said no government could shelve the project, as the issue of women rights was getting more attention in the country.

Mr Niamat opined that for a trauma centre in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, the city government had many plots, where such a centre could be easily set up.

He hoped the city government would desist from taking such an anti-education step, and instead make best efforts for the project’s early completion.—PPI
