KARACHI, Jan 8: The City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, said on Sunday that allottees of plot in the New Malir Housing Scheme would be handed over possession of their land within two months, enabling them to build houses. “This scheme, spreading over an area of 25 acres, will be completed in four to five years and will provide housing to 25,000 families,” said the nazim during a briefing held after his visit to the New Malir Housing Scheme on Sunday.

DCO Karachi Fazalur Rehman, Project Director Amirzada Kohati, representatives of consultant firms and a large number of people were also present.

Mr Kamal informed that construction of the modern housing project was going on at full pace and said bottlenecks in the way, if any, would be removed on war-footing basis.

He directed construction of separate corridors for laying utility infrastructures so the need for digging roads for infrastructure repair and development doesn’t arise in the future.

He further directed that a flyover should be built to connect the housing project with the National Highway besides constructing a bus terminal for more than 1,000 buses in view of future requirements of the area.

The nazim said as soon as any sector was constructed, the same should be handed over to people so that the occupation process could be expedited.

He said anyone attempting to impede the progress of construction would be dealt with strictly.

Mr Kamal was informed that the project was initiated in 1997 and so far plots had been allotted to 23,000 people, which included low income plots of 100, 200 and 300 sq-ft. The scheme has a capacity to house 25,000 families.

Separate treatment plants have been constructed for each sector for recycling of sewerage water.

Plots have also been allocated for mosques, educational institutions and other welfare purposes.—APP
