PENALISING THE HONEST: When you pay the utility bills regularly, but have to suffer lengthy power shutdowns just because you happen to be living in some area that is in the bad books of, say, K-Electric (KE), what should one do? Nothing, I am told. We recently shifted to Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block 11 and have been facing 10-12 hours of loadshedding every single day. The KE says the area has illegal connections. Are we, the consumers, responsible for it? KE can easily detect such connections and it should. What is the point of penalising honest consumers?

INCLUSIVITY, DIVERSITY: To encourage inclusivity and diversity in Central Superior Services (CSS), the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) should also announce special examinations for the minority communities. It would be a great goodwill gesture if candidates belonging to such communities are given a chance.

DIGITAL BANKING: Pakistan lags behind the world in the field of digital banking and leading e-commerce platforms prefer to stay away from the local market. The policymakers need to re-evaluate their approach to fix the issues that are causing hindrances in the process.

TRANSPARENCY AT A COST: Recently, the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) announced on its website that the result of the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2020 would be released as per the court order to maintain transparency. The candidates who passed CCE in 2019 have been waiting for more than three years to get their appointment letters and postings despite having their offer letters in hand. With this experience, one wonders what kind of ‘transparency’ the SPSC wants to maintain.

It should compensate the candidates for wasting so much of their precious time.
